Centenary celebrations

The last weekend of September Adi church section celebrated the 100 anniversary of CECA 20. Two days were packed with activities. Saturday morning there was a long church service with sermons about how to build the future for the church, our families, the country of Congo. Many people attended and were fed with God’s Word. In the afternoon there was a march from Adi to Ingbokolo where the different church centers separated to different corners of Ingbokolo for evangelism. All the groups had organized singing, music, prayer and preaching.

Sunday was the big church service (and the church was packed full, even outide people had found a place to follow the service) which started with the ‘Halleluya’ chorus played on the trumpets.

The history of CECA 20 and also of Adi was told in detail and one of the old, old men (he is 108!) could tell about the time when he arrived in Adi. Later I discovered that he still remembered when Joyce Richardson was born. As the first missionary baby in Adi she was a sight to behold. Also there were five pastors who received their license and we celebrated the Lord’s Supper.

100 years. 1912-2012. During all this time God has been faithful and guided CECA through times of growth but also through times of opposition and problems. And God knows the future He has for us. In Jeremiah 29:11 He says: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” In this hope we may live.
